Bing search – Google killer ?

Ok so the title of this post is a little predictable. Microsoft launches a new search engine and suddenly everyone asks if it is the one to knock Google down in size. However, one thing I have noticed differently this time round is that people have actually heard of the “Bing search engine” from Microsoft – and that is quite surprising. I am all too often left with blank faces when I talk about new technology or new websites as people glaze over and ask for a pillow.
So will Bing be the new Google killer – actually I don’t really care… what I care about is ’search’ takes up a great deal of my time online and I want fast, quick and relevant results – I suspect so do many millions of others.
Google has always provided fast, quick and relevant results – but I have also become lazy with my use of search engines and so I really am not sure how relevant Googles results really are anymore. Sure they were in 2000, and for the last 9 years whilst the indexing has evolved the interface and functionality hasn’t – a formula that made Google hugely successful and as they say ‘if it isn’t broke – don’t fix it’. But when a new kid comes onto the block (Bing) that looks and feels much nice and more user friendly than Google i really find myself thinking is Google really is so 2000 !!!
Alright, I hear the cries of ‘what good is a search engine that looks good and performs like a brick’… well from what I have seen and found on Bing (and I am one of those stats that uses the web for too long) it is a real joy to use… the results are very accurate and easily give Google a run for it’s money… add in the easy to use interface and it is fast becoming the preferred search engine of most of the people I know.
And for those searching in the UK… there is more to come… adjust your location to US and you can see the full functionality that Bing delivers – when this becomes mainstream and global Google will at last have a serious challenger – so check it out at Bing.com.
