There are a number of analytics packages available for tracking visitors, key interactions and e-commerce transactions through websites. They vary from providing simple statistics on visitor numbers to full ROI comparisons and user paths. There are also variances in the cost of packages, from free to $,000 dollar installations. Here is a list of some that I have used and come across:
- Google Analytics
Free, enterprise level software. Tracks client side (cookies via javascript). Good for most website / marketing needs. - AW Stats
Free, open source software. Tracks server side (log-file based). Good for most website / technical needs (e.g. analysing bandwidth usage) - Webtrends
Enterprise level software. Tracks client side (cookies via javascript). Good for most website / marketing needs. - Mint
Tracks server side. Good for most website needs. - Omniture (now part of Adobe)
Enterprise level software, that forms part of a suite of software. Good for most/large website / marketing needs. - Urchin
In the region of $3,000, large, scalable enterprise level software. Tracks both client and server side (Cookies via JavaScript & Logs). Good for large website / technical needs e.g. ISP.
