Meaning of Analytics Terms

Many businesses and organisations around the world are using analytics tools to track website usage data. Often though those analysing the data are confused by terms and their meanings. So to try and solve some of the mystery, here is a short glossary on what terms such as page view, unique page view and time on site mean ?
Visitor Traffic Analytics
- Page Views
The total number of pages viewed. Repeated views of a single page are counted. - Unique Page Views
The number of visits during which one or more of these pages was viewed. - Time on Page
The average amount of time that visitors spent viewing this set of pages or page. - Bounce Rate
The percentage of single-page visits resulting from this set of pages or page. - % Exit
The percentage of site exits that occurred from this set of pages or page. - $ Index
The average value of this page or set of pages. $Index is (E-commerce revenue + Total Goal Value) divided by Page Views for the page(s).
E-commerce Analytics
- Unique Purchases
The total number of times this product was seen in a transaction. - Product Revenue
The total revenue from product sales. Excludes VAT and postage. - Average QTY
The average quantity of this product (or group of products) sold per transaction. - Average Value
The average value of an E-commerce transaction. - E-commerce Conversion Rate
The percentage of visits which resulted in an E-commerce transaction. - Per Visit Value
Average per visit value is the average value of a visit to your site and is calculated as Revenue divided by Visits.
