Microsoft Popfly

Microsoft Popfly

Popfly is a tool / website from Microsoft, that allows users to create web pages, program snippets, and mashups using the Silverlight applications through a set of online tools. The Mashup Creator is a tool that lets users fit together pre-built blocks in order to mash together different web services and visualization tools.

The Mashup Creator is really simple to use, within minutes I had created a simple Mashup of my Facebook friends. Popfly allows for easy linking into the Facebook api… from there the process is really simple with a range of available tools that can be simply reconfigured to show a selection of friends photos in a carousel type of effect (Facebook api / Popfly)… more advanced examples are available on the web, with users snapping together photos and map blocks in order to get a geotagged map of pictures on a topic of their choice.

Completed mashups and web pages are stored on Popfly Space. Users receive a customizable profile page and public projects can be shared, rated, or “ripped” by other users.

Popfly is well worth visiting if you are looking for something a little different for your website, that is as easy to create as an animated gif.
